Multnomah Falls is a waterfall on the Oregon side of the Columbia River Gorge, located east of Troutdale, between Corbett and Dodson, along the Historic Columbia River Highway. The falls drops in two major steps, split into an upper falls of 542 feet (165 m) and a lower falls of 69 feet (21 m), with a gradual 9 foot (3 m) drop in elevation between the two, so the total height of the waterfall is conventionally given as 620 feet (189 m). Towering at 543 feet, the falls are year round, easily accessible from Portland, and absolutely spectacular. It's almost too easy to see it. I wish some sights (like Nevada and Vernal Falls in Yosemite) require work to see them, a far off trailhead, a steep climb, and then an even greater pay off. Multnomah Falls is easily seen from the freeway and parking lot. A short climb up a few switchbacks brings you to a bridge over the lower falls with fantastic misty views of the falls. A must see in Portland.
